Hydroxyethyl cellulose is a commonly used cellulose ether organic water-based ink thickener. It is a water-soluble non-ionic compound with good thickening ability for water. It can be degraded by oxygen, acid and enzymes, and can be cross-linked by Cu2+ under alkaline conditions. It is thermally stable, does not gel when heated, does not precipitate under acidic conditions, has good film-forming properties, and its aqueous solution can be made into a transparent film. It can be formed by the action of alkaline cellulose and ethylene oxide, and has the properties of thickening, emulsification, adhesion, suspension, film formation, moisture retention and protective colloid. The role of thickeners in water-based inks is thickening. The viscosity of the ink added with thickeners increases, which can improve the physical and chemical stability of the ink; due to the increase in viscosity, the rheology of the ink can be controlled during printing; the pigments and fillers in the ink are not easy to precipitate, and the storage stability of the water-based ink is increased. Thickeners are cellulose substances and (or) polyvinyl alcohol substances. The cellulose material can be one or more of methyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose, hydroxymethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose; the polyvinyl alcohol material can be one or more of polyethylene 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1600, 2000, 4000, 6000.
