1. Definition of o-xylene

O-xylene is one of several xylene isomers produced by conversion of C6-C8 stream from aromatics produced in refinery or olefin plant.  The mixed xylene stream contains o-,m-,and p-xylene.  These components can be separated by extractive distillation or isomerized to p-xylene.

O-xylene, abbreviated as OX in English.

It is a chemical raw material for producing phthalic anhydride (phthalic anhydride, PA), dyes, pesticides, etc.  O-xylene derivatives are phthalaldehyde and can be used to prepare phthalate plasticizers.  About 90% o-xylene is used to produce phthalic anhydride.  The relationship between o-xylene and phthalic anhydride is closely related and interdependent.
